Puppet Making Workshops:  July 7 – ages 7-12 yrs; July 14 – ages 13-18 yrs

If you could transform into an animal, what would you be? Does your chosen animal reveal anything about your personality or interests? Participants are invited for a fun morning of art making where they will learn how to create their own self-portrait animal stick puppet while discovering personal strengths they may share with their puppet alter ego.

SuperKids Workshop: July 21 – ages 7-12 yrs

Group games and art making opportunities will invite participants to reflect on their personal strengths. They will imagine their strengths as everyday superpowers that they can use to help them through challenges. These everyday superpowers will provide the basis for participants to create a superhero identity for themselves. The workshop will culminate in an art project where each everyday superhero will create an amazing cape to wear home.

Personal Power Zine Workshop: July 28 – ages 13-18 yrs

Designed with teens in mind, this workshop will focus on the art of storytelling through the medium of cartoons. Participants will be invited to create a personalized cartoon character, and then tell the story of how their character solves an everyday problem using his or her personal power. Participants will create a mini comic called a “zine”, and will have a chance to make copies of their zine to trade with other group members or to share with friends.

Creative Coping Strategies for Back-to-School Anxiety: August 18 – ages 7-12 yrs; August 25 – ages 13-18 yrs

These workshops will offer a safe space for kids and teens to explore what it is that’s stressful about school in a small group setting. Participants will build their own back-to-school survival kit filled with practical tools to help them creatively cope with stress and anxiety. The tools will be tailored to the participants’ developmental level so that kids and teens alike can head into September feeling prepared and supported.
