Children

In our work with children, we feel honoured to bear witness to their endless imagination, curiosity, and sense of wonder. At Art as Therapy we believe that children are capable, powerful, and incredibly resilient and resourceful. With children as the leaders, we take on the role of supporter, encourager, assistant, and facilitator. Our hope is to provide a safe inviting space where a child’s sense of play and creativity is welcomed and becomes the starting point for imagining new ways of seeing and engaging with the world.

At Art as Therapy we greatly value our work with adolescents and young adults. The curiosity of childhood often begins to turn inwards as adolescents make sense of their emerging unique identity. As teens become increasingly independent and find ways to express their thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, our hope is to provide a nurturing, accepting environment where they can explore the wide range of colours that make up their personality and sense of self. We hope to provide a mirror so they can see themselves reflected back in a positive light and can build confidence in who they are and the amazing strengths they bring to the world.

Adults

We feel honoured at Art as Therapy when we have the opportunity to bear witness to a small part of an adult’s journey. Whether they are walking through a challenging or joyful season, or whether it is a season filled with change, we believe that our clients are the experts in their lives and that they already possess the strengths and skills needed to face challenges. We have the privilege of offering a space where adults can freely express what is on their minds and in their hearts, and use their creativity to tap into the strengths they carry with them, perhaps unconsciously. Our hope is that our clients leave Art as Therapy feeling empowered that they have what it takes to confidently face whatever life may bring.

Older adults

At Art as Therapy we feel privileged to work alongside older adults. We believe that older adults hold an immeasurable treasure of knowledge and wisdom that is beautifully and intricately woven into their lived experience. They may encounter a vast array of changes which may bring forth opportunities as well as challenges. Whether creating art is something they already enjoy or is completely new to them, we feel honored to provide a judgement free space where they can share their stories, their uniqueness, engage in the creative process of making something and feel supported. Age does not diminish an individual’s power, it increases it. With that in mind we hope that we can help our clients tap into their power, celebrating the unique gifts they bring.
