If you are human, you will know that we experience our world through our mind, what we think impacts the way we feel and what we feel impacts the way we engage both with ourselves and others. Now there are many things that can be done to support your mental health needs. However there might be a time in your life or in the life of a loved one where you feel it is necessary to seek professional support. Art therapy is one option. But what is art therapy?
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the creative process of making something to help a client understand their thoughts feelings and actions. We invite clients of all ages to use a wide range of materials to express whatever is on their mind without judgment or negative consequences.
For many people, the opportunity to express themselves through art allows for difficult or less familiar thoughts and feelings to come out. Once thoughts and feelings are in the artwork, the client and the therapist can look at them together, and come up with creative ideas around what the client would like to do with the thoughts and feelings.
Art as Therapy uses a strengths-based relational approach, meaning that we believe that our clients already have what it takes to face challenges. Our role is to assist our clients to discover, recognize and tap into their inner strengths.
