The journey thus far
Art as Therapy began as an idea, a simple vision of providing a therapeutic space, where individuals felt a sense of ease, that despite the challenges they were facing, they would feel supported and empowered to create the change THEY wished for or imagined. This vision was built on a simple notion, that all people, irrespective of gender, age, ethnicity, socio-economic status or any other human made barrier, had the inner power to realize their unique potential.
Art as Therapy came into existence in 2006 providing both individual and group art therapy services in schools and transitional housing settings. In 2008, Rapinder Kaur, (who speaks with a english accent, wears brightly coloured turbans and loves to clean) opened up a small office in Orangeville with her dreams and vision in hand oh and a few art supplies of course! The practice has since expanded to different locations, with wonderful people joining the team and continues to remain true to its founding vision.
At Art as Therapy, we feel honoured and privileged to work with our clients. As cliche as it sounds, in our experience it really is about the journey, the process as we call it and not simply the destination. As we work with our clients, we continue to learn from them, which increases our understanding of what it means to be human and live in this world.
